Houston Rodeo Guide {boot scootin' boogie}

Are you headed to the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo soon? Well, we thought we'd share our favorite shops before you go! (This is not a sponsored post, just our opinions and ponderins, y'all!)

It's A Family Thang

The Rodeo is a special place to me because it was such a special place to my dad, Aubrey, and it still is to my mom, Carrietta. My dad volunteered for years and years on different committees, giving his time and energy to something he found both fun and meaningful. The Rodeo has been giving out college scholarships to deserving kids since 1957 - currently, more than 2,100 students are on Show scholarships at Texas universities.

But besides family history and service, the Rodeo also means two of my favorite things - shopping, and cotton candy.

This is a pic of me and my dear friend of many decades, Courtney Taylor. She and her husband Jim Bob, as well as her parents, are very involved in the Show. In fact, our dads were on the board of directors together, and her dad, Steve Stevens, was the HLSR Chairman of the Board for the past three years. She's rodeo royalty, y'all! And she's also so much fun!

Christina Greene Designs

Here's Courtney modeling her new Christina Greene turquoise hatband! Doesn't she look amazing?!

We love local jewelry designer Christina Greene, who we met last year at the Rodeo, when she had a booth for the first time. Her pieces are beautiful! Courtney grabbed the turquoise hatband, that looks fab for the Show, and can be worn as a necklace at other times during the year. If you go see Christina's booth, tell 'em we sent ya! She's in Booth E 6107/6108 on the corner!

Sugar, Sugar!

I can't remember how many years I've been going to the "Toffee Man." Stop by for a sample, you will not be disappointed! Toffee Man knows what he's doing - I bet you'll want to buy a box to take home. And yes, they let me give out the samples for a few minutes this year!!

You can't go wrong with the dozens of food vendors out in the tents near NRG Stadium. If you're looking for chicken on a stick, I'd send you to Yoakum Packing Co. If you're looking for light and healthy, you're probably in the wrong place...

Wander Around A While, Why Dontcha!

There are lots of other great shops in the NRG Center (that long, giant building next to NRG Stadium.) I enjoy walking up and down the aisles and browsing - my daughter can attest to this! Double D Ranchwear is one of my long-time favorite lines, and there are a few booths where you can find great deals - like cute necklaces for $22 or dresses for $40+. You just never know what you might find! Last year I bought some unbelievable jewelry cleaner that I still use on a regular basis. Gotta keep that bling shiny clean!

Above, the Lucchese barn-door and hardware is fabulous! And if shiny bedazzled belts are your thing, well, you've come to the right place!

Girls Night with Miranda Lambert

I had a blast with the girls at Miranda Lambert last week! Where would I be without all my fun friends?! And Miranda rocked it! What a fun time out at the Show!

Pictured left to right:                                                                                                                        Haley Howell Ottmann, Courtney, Miss Moo, Amy Robinson, Cathy, Brigitte Howell

Get Down, Go to Town, Boot Scoot!

If you're headed out to the HLSR soon, have a blast! Thanks for reading our guide!!

Love, Cathy
