New York, New York

Renovate's founder and designer, Cathy, has been in New York City the past week. (She's been on a work trip with colleagues from New York Life, where her husband worked for more than 20 years.) Whether it's your first trip or your fifteenth, the Big Apple is always an exciting place to visit, don't you think?

How would Cathy recommend you spend a rainy day in New York City?

Well, yesterday she attended a cooking class and had lunch at the culinary institute, followed by attending a Broadway matinee. She and her group saw "The Realistic Joneses" starring Toni Collette and Marisa Tomei. And who was sitting just down the row? None other than Gwyneth Paltrow's mom, Blythe Danner. Cathy even nabbed an autograph!

Cathy has been staying at the Carlton House Hotel, one of her favorites. Her group took the Staten Island Ferry around Lady Liberty, did a bus tour to check out major landmarks like the Flat Iron Building, and visited the 9/11 Memorial. She also found time to stop by Fishs Eddy's flagship store, a line of unique dish-ware and home items that we are proud to carry in our Houston studio. All photos courtesy of Cathy's iphone!

This is the largest man-made waterfall in North America, in the place where Tower II used to stand.

On Staten Island, the 9/11 Memorial has the name and profile of each person who died in the attacks.
